Course Description Design for environment (DfE) is being used by leading organizations around the world to reduce the impact of product design upon the environment. This whole life cycle approach creates products that open new "green" markets, meet your customer's "green" purchasing standards, reduce the cost of environmental compliance and increase your profitability. In this program we will focus on Design for Environment for consumer products and assist you with understanding how: material choice, material combinations, product production, product delivery, product use, product disassembly, and final disposition (recycle, remanufacturer, and repair) all impact its environmental footprint.
Learning Objectives Using current case studies, best practice examples and hands-on activities you will:
1. Understand the concept of Design for Environment and what it means to your products.
2. Identify the opportunities for DfE in purchasing, premanufacturing, manufacturing, distribution, packaging and end of life for your products.
3. Establish the elements of the business case for DfE among your priority products.
4. Undertake a DfE exercise that demonstrates the DfE process within a multi-disciplinary product design team.
5. Develop a plan of action for DfE in your operation.
