Course Description

Compliance with Ontario's new Toxic Use Reduction Act and Regulations requires manufacturers in iStock_000004709146XSmallOntario that file under NPRI to prepare pollution prevention plans for designated toxic substances. In this program we will show you how meet your compliance requirements, save money through practical utility and waste reduction measures, and improve the health and safety of the work environment while bringing a "greener" product to market.

Learning Objectives At the conclusion of this practical, fast paced and hands-on program you will work on your operation's Toxic Use Reduction Plan. You will be able to:

1. Understand the compliance requirements and the business case for Toxic Use Reduction strategies.
2. List the 10 most impactful components of your Toxic Use Reduction Plan.
3. Complete toxics substance accounting and prepare process flow diagrams.
4. Identify opportunities in 7 categories to reduce toxics use and creation in your operation.
5. Technically and economically evaluate cost saving measures in your operation related to Toxic Use Reduction.
6. Write components of your Toxic Use Reduction Plan.
7. Develop customer focused promotional strategies for your "greener" products as part of your sustainability plan.

Trainer and Subject Matter Expert Bruce Taylor, P.Eng.
President and Founder, Enviro-Stewards

BruceTaylorBruce Taylor, P. Eng., is President of Enviro-Stewards Inc., which is an international environmental consulting firm. He is a chemical engineer with 20 years of experience in the environmental consulting field and has expertise in the fields of toxics reduction, pollution prevention (P2), energy efficiency (E2), and sustainable process design.

He has completed high profile conservation work such as designing recycling systems for the Space Shuttle's Solid Rocket Booster refurbishing facilities. Mr. Taylor was retained by the Ministry of the Environment to develop and deliver 7 technical training workshops for facilities subject to the toxics reduction act and regulation. He is also the recipient of the 2010 John De Gonzague Pollution Prevention Visionary Award, which is the highest award in this field in Canada.
