Course Description Buildings are responsible for some 30-40 percent of energy use and some 15 percent of water use worldwide. Add "sick building syndrome" and rising building operation costs - and green building retrofits and design make a solid business case. But there is a "right" and "wrong" way. Too often not all the correct information is factored into the decision making process. In this program Larry Freiburger, an experienced LEED Accredited Professional will share guiding principles for maximizing building performance for new "green" building design or retrofits. Understand the various green building standards and how they differ. Gain professional insights on how to capitalize on the opportunities of green building technologies. Learn about unanticipated barriers and develop strategies for successful "green" building projects.
Learning Objectives Using current case studies, best practice examples and hands-on activities you will:

  • Understand and create the business case for green building design or a retrofit at your site.
  • Compare and contrast the various green building standards.
  • Analyse innovative green building technologies for your operations.
  • Identify and apply the key steps involved in greening a building to your case.
  • Recognize the hidden challenges to greening a building and develop a plan for overcoming those challenges.
  • Commence an engagement plan for involving building occupants in green building operation.
