On energy alone, studies show that the average gas heated office building with 50,000 square feet of office space can reduce operating costs by as much as $40,000 per year through no-cost and low-cost energy reduction actions.

Through sustainability initiatives savings can be found in water, waste handling, energy, landscaping, discretionary consumables (such as paper), office space and travel. Energy alone represents as much as 30 percent of a building's operating costs. As a rule these costs can be driven down by as much as 20 percent through tenant energy efficiency strategies.
